Meet the First Sun President


Elliott Powell, President

First Sun was the first company to Broker PEO services in South Carolina. His group was also the first to introduce staff/employee leasing now known as PEO services in South Carolina. 

Elliott Powell was introduced to the original concept of employee leasing by the senior partner of a CPA firm based in Dallas, TX in 1985. At that time his firm was establishing Alliance Employee Leasing Group. In 1986, First Sun Financial Services Companies (a business cluster of financial service companies) were established, and originally contracted with Alliance to handle their marketing efforts nationwide. Elliott Powell joined this unique business cluster and was assigned to lead the PEO marketing efforts. He later obtained the marketing agreements and established First Sun Employee Leasing, Inc (later dba First Sun HR & Benefit Solutions), and together they quickly took Alliance to #15 in the Inc 500. 

He is married and has three adult sons. His family attends First Presbyterian ARP Church, where he serves as an Elder. He helped establish the Gills Creek Watershed Association, and served for many years as chairman of the executive board (now emeritus). He was a two term president of the Lake Katharine Homeowners Association where he resides. He has served on multiple boards of the 100+ years old Columbia Rotary Club where he is a four time Paul Harris Fellow with nearly 30 years perfect attendance. He is a long-time member of the Salvation Army of the Midlands board of directors. He is a past chairman of the board of Crime Stoppers of the Midlands, and served two terms on the board of Sistercare, Inc. a battered women's shelter. He is a member of Forest Lake Club. He is a member of the University Associates and is a long time supporter of the University of South Carolina where his family started the business scholarship program.
